Firsty is a company based in Amsterdam that has introduced an innovative free eSIM service. This solution can be activated through an app available on compatible Android and iOS devices. It’s worth noting that the provided eSIM does not support calls or SMS, but it allows for free data usage regardless of the user’s location, albeit at a limited data transfer speed (approximately 300 kbps/sec).
To use the service for free, users must watch a 30-second advertisement, which serves as the main source of funding and provides 60 minutes of free browsing, renewable by watching another advertisement. Currently, this option proves useful mainly in emergency situations but still enables users to send messages, forward emails, make VoIP calls with reduced data consumption, and browse the internet.
The “Firsty Fast” plan, on the other hand, entails a daily price of €3.50, which decreases based on the number of days purchased. For instance, if we purchase 30 days of browsing, we would pay €59.90 (€1.98/day). Each purchased day includes 2 GB of browsing at the maximum available speed, including 5G, and without advertisements.
Founded in 2023 by Vince Vissers and Gauthier Thierens, both former product managers at Adyen, Firsty has received funding from major investors and aims to innovate in the field of cross-border mobile connectivity.
The service is currently available in the European Union, USA, United Kingdom, Turkey, and Switzerland, with the ambition to expand coverage globally by the end of March 2024.
